xpand Foundation leads and supports a portfolio of initiatives that bridge community development, environmental regeneration, and technology for impact.

WithOneSeed – Baguia, Timor-Leste
Working with smallholder farmers, the WithOneSeed model was first implemented in the mountains of Baguia in 2009, and was Timor-Leste’s first community-led carbon farming initiative.

The WithOneSeed model provides a framework for farming communities to restore their forests, improves their livelihoods, and address climate change through fair, transparent, and certified carbon trading.

The program in Baguia now supports over 1,000 farming households with an annual income and demonstrates how community-based action can drive both local prosperity and global climate outcomes.

Rai Matak – National Program

Building on the success in Baguia, Rai Matak is scaling the WithOneSeed model in Timor-Leste as a national community forestry and carbon farming program. Over the next 10 years, more than 20,000 farming households will plant 10 million trees and generate income to improve their livelihoods- drawing from a model for national-level regeneration that values people and the land they steward.

TreeO2 – Technology for Regeneration

TreeO2 is a digital innovation developed by xpand Foundation to improve transparency and accountability in community forestry.
Through simple smartphone technology, TreeO2 enables farmers and field teams to measure, monitor, and verify the growth of every tree.
TreeO2 ensures that communities are fairly recognised and rewarded for their role in addressing climate change.

Simple Action. Many People. Big Impact!

Across all our work, xpand Foundation is guided by a simple belief: when communities lead with their own solutions, the outcomes are fairer, smarter, and more enduring — for people, the planet, and generations to come.
